Brisbane Things to See and Do

Want to explore the great sights and sounds of Brisbane? The Wellington Apartment Hotel provides a perfect base from which to reach most of the great locations whether by City Cat, car or on foot. Brisbane’s great City Cat is just an easy 6 minute stroll from The Wellington’s front door and from there you can hop on hop off in the City, at Southbank, the City Botanical Gardens, Queensland University and many other great locations. Or you can just sit back on the City Cat and take in many of the other sights the Brisbane River has to offer. Change from the City Cat to one of the other Brisbane Ferry services for the Lone Pine Sanctuary and many other great locations. By foot you can easily reach the Storey Bridge (don’t miss the famous Storey Bridge Climb), The Valley Precinct (including Chinatown), or walk through to the cliffs at Kangaroo Point, with access to the River Walk and Southbank Parklands. A little further afield and an easy drive will have you at Mt Cootha where there are great views across Brisbane and at the base of which is the world renowned Brisbane Botanical Gardens.

Interested in sport? The Wellington is just 500 metres from Brisbane’s famous Gabba Cricket ground which hosts first class cricket matches in summer and is home to the Brisbane Lions AFL side in winter. If one of the other football codes is your choice a short City Cat journey will have you at Suncorp Stadium (formerly Lang Park) where the Brisbane Broncos Rugby League side, the Queensland Reds Rugby Union side and the Brisbane Roar Soccer side all play their home games.

Fancy a flutter? Brisbane’s Treasury Casino is easily reached on the City Cat whilst Brisbane’s two race tracks (Doomben and Eagle Farm), the Albion Park Trotting and Greyhound Tracks are a short distance from the City Cat’s Hamilton Wharf terminal..

More interested in Cultural Activities? By City Cat or pleasant walk through Kangaroo Point and Southbank Parklands you can reach the heart of Brisbane’s Cultural activities. There you will find the Museum, the Maritime Museum, the Art Gallery, the Gallery of Modern Art, the Concert Hall, the Lyric Theatre, the Cremorne Theatre, the Play House and the Conservatorium of Music.

And what about food? The Wellington’s own Boots Restaurant offers great breakfasts every day and highly regarded evening meals from Monday to Thursday. There are some fine quality restaurants within close proximity as is the Shafston pub across the road. Then in easy reach are the Brisbane City River (Eagle Street) restaurants, Chinatown in the Valley, the Southbank (Little Stanley Street) precinct, the James Street precinct and many other unique locations.
